From Classroom to Crisis: Applying MY First Aid Skills
Recently, during one of my personal training sessions, I found myself in a situation that put my CPR training to the test. My client suddenly fainted, collapsing right in front of me. Panic surged through the room, but I remembered my CPR training. Swiftly, I instructed someone to call 911 and get me the defibrillator.
“…Call 911 and get me the defibrillator.”
As I thought about placing the defibrillator pads on his chest, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of the responsibility. Fortunately, after a tense period, he stabilized and did not require the defibrillator or chest compressions from me. The paramedics arrived in about 10 minutes, and although my client was taken to the hospital, he ultimately recovered. It was a stark reminder that the skills learned in the classroom can make a life-or-death difference in real-world emergencies. Especially in the lag time between the need occurs and when ambulance help finally arrives.
The Crucial Moments
As my client lay on the floor, pale and somewhat unresponsive, I assessed the situation. His breathing was shallow, and he was weak, so I let him rest on the floor with a support under his head. I knew I had to act quickly, especially if he worsened. Calling 911 was my first instinct, but I also might need the defibrillator. As trained in CPR classes, I instructed others to call 911 and get the defibrillator for me while I monitored him. The seconds felt like an eternity as I reassured him and waited for paramedics. Soon, their expertise took over, stabilizing my client and ensuring he received the necessary medical attention. It was a surreal experience, transitioning from routine training drills to a critical life-saving moment.
“…The paramedics arrived in about 10 minutes….”
Life and Death- Beyond the Gym
Whether it’s a fellow gym-goer or a loved one, knowing how to perform CPR and use an AED can be the difference between life and death. Let’s continue honing our First Aid skills and be ready to save lives whenever the need arises.

What is the Lunk Alarm at Planet Fitness?
The Lunk Alarm At Planet Fitness
It may be peaceful in your fitness center but in the halls of Planet Fitness, where the treadmills hum and the dumbbells can loudly drop, there is a “Lunk Alarm.” This siren is not for everyone or the faint of heart.
“Kicked out of gym- When a gym member grunts too loudly…”
When a gym member grunts too loudly or drops weights with a thud, It’s the gym’s way of saying you are being rude and noisy! It is for real and still used in 2024 - it goes off loudly when a member grunts or drops weight too loud.
Does your gym need a Grunt alarm? Do you ever have members that grunt too loud where you exercise? Leave a comment here:

The Mediterranean Diet and Dining Out Choices
The popular Mediterranean Diet is widely recommended by doctors due to its numerous health benefits, particularly for heart health and cognitive function. Its a simple diet based on how they eat in Mediterranean Sea side countries like Greece and Italy that focuses on fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and olive oil and whole grains. It limits red meat and processed foods. See photos above. But how do you stay “Mediterranean” when eating out?
Things you can order when eating out to stay on Mediterranean diet:
When dining at Outback Steakhouse or Chili’s and aiming to stick to the Mediterranean Diet, here are some options you could consider:
Outback Steakhouse:
Grilled Fish: opt for a grilled fish option like salmon, which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Ask them to cook it in olive oil and request steamed vegetables.
House Salad without croutons. Ask for oil and vinegar dressing and consider adding grilled chicken or salmon.
Chili’s:
Salmon with Anco Chili and with fresh vegetables
Margarita Grilled Chicken: This dish is typically served with a side of black beans and rice. Ask to substitute grilled vegetables or black beans for the rice.
Remember, the key to sticking to the Mediterranean diet at restaurants is to focus on dishes that include plenty of vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats, while avoiding processed foods and excessive carbohydrates. Don’t hesitate to ask the waiter for customizations and substitutions to fit the diet’s guidelines.
3 Aldi Healthy Food Choices
Attention all savvy shoppers! Im shopping Aldi a bit more these days. Here are 3 things at Aldi that I think are better than brand names.
The Corale Premium Baked Beans are great. Beans can be a good source of fiber and protein with about 14 grams of carbohydrate per serving. I’m told in a taste test shoppers say they taste the same as expensive national brand version. I think they give the national brands a run for their money with perfect blend of tangy flavors.
Also, a winner is the Simply Nature Organic Spinach and Yogurt Dip. Its organic (which means among other things the spinach farmers have not used pesticides in last 3 years) and it’s made from good ingredients!
The Aldi Hummus competes with the national brands found at grocery stores at double the price. The have several flavors and I like the fact that it gluten free and non GMO. However, it’s important to watch the portion size because the calories and fat can add up quickly if you consume more than the serving size.
Do you like Aldis Produce and have you noticed that it perishes faster than food from other stores?
