I’m Packing My Bags for Los Angeles and the 2024 IDEA Fitness Expo Adventure!
I’m going to swap my dumbbells for a suitcase and head to the annual convention of muscles and motivation next week– the IDEA Personal Trainers Conference! This isn’t just any conference; it’s the Olympics of the fitness world, minus the questionable fashion choices from the '80s.
With over 8,000 personal trainers attending, the event (July 10-14) is so massive you could mistake it for a new kind of Richard Simmons group workout. I’ll be there, navigating through a sea of protein shakes and high-fives, ready to network and absorb industry trends.
Only in California- Jumping Jack Challenge on Friday
Remember Jack LaLanne ? Thousands of fitness professionals are coming together to attempt to break the World Record for the largest simultaneous Jumping Jacks performance! I’ll have the chance to join renowned fitness leader Elaine LaLanne (Jacks’s Wife) as we aim to collectively perform 98 Jumping Jacks to celebrate Elaine's incredible 98th birthday. This exciting event will occur at the IDEA World Fitness & Nutrition Expo on Friday, July 12. Read more about it : Jumping Jack Challenge
In addition to the first 2 days of education classes offered, on Friday, the LA Convention Center transforms into a fitness enthusiast’s expo wonderland, boasting over 200 vendors. Picture this: a place where the air is thick with the scent of new gym equipment and the latest superfoods that promise to make kale taste like a cheat meal.
The IDEA convention will be for 3 days, so that leaves 2 days for sightseeing and being a tourist in LA. So, stay tuned as I embark on this epic quest for fitness glory. I’ll be sharing all the juicy details, from the latest trends to the most bizarre protein shake flavors and equipment, soon.

Skye The Cat Update
Some of you have been inquiring about my feline foodie Skye, who loves gourmet whisker-licking meals. Recently, the vet had prescribed a diet that seemed more like a math problem than a meal plan, suggesting weighing food and exercise—two words that sent shivers down Skye’s furry spine. As the dreaded day of the vet visit approaches this fall, Skye is caught in a purr-plexing dilemma: to nap or to treadmill? Who knew her weight loss could be such a challenging affair? Skye has a little Yo-Yo Syndrome going on. She initially lost some weight but is now struggling just a bit. We have a few months before the vet visit and the weigh-in….

You may know I’m a Certified Personal Trainer specializing in training people over age 50. Most of my clients are over age 70 and still seeing improvements in their strength and health.
I get lots of good questions on losing weight and how to stay fit, especially as we have to train with medical conditions or injuries as we age. I read many books and publications and will keep you informed here about fitness, relationships, finances, second careers, part time jobs and of course, how not to work at all and enjoy retirement.
