As we age, our nutritional needs and dietary habits may change, but the question remains: should seniors still be counting calories and weighing food? The answer is not as straightforward as it seems. Not all foods are created equally. Foods that are high in fiber can keep you feeling full longer which can help you from reaching for high calories foods.
A pound of fat has 3500 calories.
3500 calories divided by 7 days ( week) = 500 calories a day.
We need a 500 calorie daily deficit to lose a average of pound a week.
Do You manage Food or Exercise to get the 500 calorie deficit ?
Walking a mile burns about 100 calories when walking at a moderate pace.
Managing food intake is easier than exercise. Do both for best results.
Here Are My 6 Best Ideas to better manage food and thus calories :
One Plate Rule. Have only one normal plate of food. No seconds.
Free Food - Do not eat any free food or desserts. Stay on your plan.
Pre Party- Drink 2 large water bottles 30 minutes before dinner or event. Don’t confuse thirst with hunger.
Eat Slow- Pace yourself. Talk to people and enjoy things other than food.
Pick One Protein like a grilled chick breast or cheeseburger with no bun first.
Snacking- Stop eating in between meals and after dinner. This simple strategy can let you eat what you want but limit overall calories.
How many calories are in 15 pieces of candy corn?
Candy Corn (15 pieces) contains 110 calories. Walking a mile burns about 100 calories when walking at a moderate pace.
Would you walk a mile for 15 candy corns? Are you prepared to say “No” to Halloween Holiday Candy this year?
“ A minute on your lips, a lifetime on your hips”
In conclusion, while counting calories can be a helpful guideline, it’s equally important to pay attention to the quality and type of the food you’re consuming.
Today is the oldest you ‘ve ever been -and the youngest you’ll ever be again”

Reading Update
" I was born with a reading list I will never finish"
Maud Casey
I try to read one to two books a month. I tell myself a book is my rare opportunity to sit down with the author and have a one-on-one chat. Could you have coffee or lunch with Neil Diamond, Andre Agassi, Henry David Thoreau or even Eleanor Roosevelt ? Probably not. But through their books you spend time with them and know their and ideas in a different way. I went to Walden Pond in Massachusetts last year and re read the Walden book we probably all read in high school. I got to know Thoreau and his thoughts much better this time around. In my recent readings and time with Thoreau I learned he didn’t stay in that little house all year long, He sometimes went into town to get some of his mother’s cookies.
